Modern Farmhouse Lighting

As you may know if you follow me here on the blog or on social media, Mr. Stone Head and myself have been hard at work renovating our fixer upper. The sanding fiasco which started as a “simple” labor day weekend project and extended into over a week long project is finally (finally finally finally) done.

We picked out stain and poly last week and yesterday we applied all the stain (to both the interior floor and the porch!) Today I’ll be working on putting the first coat of polyurethane on the floor! And since I don’t have time to write up a long tutorial about it, here’s a filler post about the different lighting options I’ve been dreaming of (like literally I have dreams about picking out the fixtures for my future home!)

Even with all that on my plate (and even though we haven’t even roughed in the plumbing yet,) I’ve been dreaming of how the house (especially the kitchen and bathroom) will ultimately look. When I’m supposed to be spending time working on other things, I often find myself searching through various sites looking for the perfect finishes for the house (procrastinate much?)… and I’ve happened upon some really cool modern farmhouse lighting options that I wanted to share (and get your opinion on!)

Most of the lighting below does not come with bulbs, but in every picture I love the bulbs shown (which are mostly those cute Thomas Edison bulbs.) Did you guys know you can purchase those [HERE] and change out existing light bulbs in your current chandeliers, sconces and floor lamps!?! UM!! That’s pretty cool! And I think I have the perfect place to use these in our current place and give it a quick and cute makeover to boot – the bathroom!

Anyway, below I list a bunch of modern farmhouse lighting finds that I’ve come across while trying to figure out what the heck I want to buy eventually… the choices are literally endless – and in all honesty, I might just decide to DIY my own lighting!

Anyway, enough disclosure so that I don’t get flagged for non-compliance and on to what you guys came here for… the lights!

Wooden Chandelier

First, I’ve come across these really cool (like really really really cool) wooden chandeliers. With Mr. Stone Head being a carpenter, I think it’s only right to outfit our future home with wooden accent pieces, wouldn’t you agree?

I love this first one because it has a distressed wood and black steel frame – and who doesn’t love the look of distressed wood in a modern farmhouse? And even though our fixer upper is definitely not a modern farmhouse, I can still go for the modern farmhouse vibe inside right?  I personally like the one above but I found two other options as well which I found myself eyeballing a time or two. This first one actually looks like a regular chandelier but is made from wood (and has the black steel which I love.) Again, they show it with the popular Thomas Edison bulbs but something just doesn’t do it for me with the one below. What do you think? Maybe I’m not digging the glass? Lastly, I stumbled upon this interesting “chandelier.”  The one below is very similar to my first choice but has the Thomas Edison light bulbs more exposed and also has those cute cages around them which I think sets the whole piece off. 

But guys, here’s the funny thing, but now I kinda of wish I needed one and am rethinking whether or not we should work into the plans! But if I did I’d definitely pick me up one of the above bad boys (or at least try to DIY my own to look like one of the above bad boys.)

 

Cage Sconce

I know I was running with a wooden theme but this industrial looking sconce definitely fit the “modern farmhouse lighting” category and it has the cages which I love. I think this would look fabulous in our hallway – which currently has absolutely no lighting! They also have this option which has only one bulb and cage which might be even better for our hallway since it’s so small.

Pendant Lighting

Just like the chandelier, I may not need pendant lighting… but after I came across these couple of cute finds, I find myself (again) thinking maybe I should figure out how to incorporate some pendant lighting. At the very least, I felt like I should share them with you guys so we ALL don’t have to miss out!

This first find is one I absolutely adore. I just love how there are pulley’s incorporated into the piece! It makes it feel vintage yet industrial, ya know what I’m saying? And again, I loveeeee the Thomas Edison bulbs they picture with it!  
This next one is to die for! If you’re in the market for a single pendant (or multiple single pendants) then check this guy out! I think what I’m in love with most (no it’s not the Edison bulb this time) is the amber glass. It just has a unique antique (okay Dr. Seuss) high end vibe.

More More More Modern Farmhouse Lighting

So there you have it. Those are all the lights that I absolutely love! I could see myself purchasing any one of the above lights but I kind of have a feeling I’m going to wind up DIY-ing, mainly because lighting is expensive as shit! And also because I’d be able to use recycled or reclaimed materials to create my new light fixtures. Hopefully, in the months to come, I’ll have a cool little DIY light tutorial to share!
