Hey there! If you’ve been following me on Instagram or Facebook you’d know that we’re finally getting around to finishing our master suite addition. We’re having Todd’s family visit at the end of August and really (like really really really) want to have the space done by the time they get here. So it’s crunch time folks. We have 4 weeks!
Even before we bought this fixer upper way back in 2016, we knew we wanted to add a master bedroom and bathroom to the attic space. Not only would it add value to the house if we ever decide to sell, but when we decide to move out and rent the house out, we’ll also get more in rental income!
My favorite part of any project is the design work and it’s finally time to do it! I’m under the gun to get things chosen and ordered quickly but it’s so much fun for me to sit and think about all the possibilities. They’re truly endless.
Today I’m talking about the bathroom’s vanity. What would a master suite addition be without a double bowl vanity in the bathroom?
I recently wrote a post called what to think about before you remodel a bathroom. And something I realized since then is this… make sure you know what type of vanity you’re planning to do before you get the plumbing done.
For example, we’re adding a double bowl vanity in the master bathroom addition. But when we got the rough in plumbing done (almost a year ago) we didn’t know what vanity we were going to use so the plumber stubbed the pipes up where he thought best.
We decided to buy from the same cabinet place where we bought our kitchen cabinets and downstairs bathroom vanity. I figured why not keep it all the same… it’s a small house and I want the additional space to feel like it belongs with the rest of the house.
When I first started searching the website for a vanity for the master suite addition, I thought we weren’t going to be able to purchase the vanities with drawers (we have to buy two 30″ vanities to make up a 5′ vanity.) I thought the pipes were in the way for where said drawers need to be when they’re closed but while that was true for the first configuration it wasn’t for a few others! This is why I LOVE RTA cabinets!
With RTA cabinets we have so many options!! We could make a vanity with 4 drawers, 2 drawers or no drawers! And I’m so happy it worked out or we’d be stuck with a plain Jane vanity (no offense to the Jane’s of the world) with your standard two doors.
I’m not against standard vanities, I just know we would use the drawers (we already have them used up in our downstairs bathroom) and they add valuable storage space!
For those wondering what we plan to do for a top for the vanity.. We decided to continue with the butcher block theme and use them in the master bathroom as countertop and maybe some type of shelving!
So check back for progress on the master suite addition! Insulation is next on the to-do list and already in progress. You can see live updates on the progress of the master suite addition on Instagram so be sure to head over there too!
