A friend of mine is currently in the process of house searching and recently asked if I liked my kitchen faucet. She’s not buying a kitchen faucet quite yet but thought she’d start the hunt. I mean there are only like 1,111,111 to choose from.
My answer to her question? It’s my most favoritest kitchen faucet I have ever bought and used. And that’s because before I purchased I researched the heck out of it (because I’m me and research is my middle name. Just kidding. It’s Eileen.)
So I thought I’d compile a list of kitchen faucets, where to buy kitchen faucets and what to think about before buying a kitchen faucet. And yes, this post contains affiliate links which means I make a small commission if you purchase from my link. Feel free to read more riveting info on that here.
First I should go over what you need to think about before you buying kitchen faucet because you don’t want to find out after that puppy’s installed that you hate it.
Before buying a kitchen faucet think about this…
The Finish
First, you need to think about finish. Do you want the kitchen faucet to match the other accessories in the kitchen or stand out on it’s own merit?
There are all kinds of colors to choose from now! Matte black, champagne bronze, oil rubbed bronze, stainless, chrome, gold and so many more, it can be overwhelming!
Flow Rate
You also need to think about the flow rate!! This is so important and something most people don’t think about until after the kitchen faucet is installed and you start actually using it. I like a flow rate of 1.8 gpm (gallons per minute,) anything less doesn’t spray food off dishes very well, in my experience.
Spray Options
Speaking of spray, you need to consider what kind of options you want. I like a faucet that has a dual spray option, one for spraying dishes and one regular flow for washing hands and filling pots. Don’t forget, you could potentially add a hole to the countertop and have a separate hand held sprayer. I know, I know! So many choices and decisions to be made!
How Many Holes
If you’re re-doing your countertops at the same time, you have even more options!! You have to decide how many holes you want. There are faucets out there requiring anywhere from 1-5 holes! 5?! Yes, the faucet can have up to three holes, then there could be a soap dispenser and a hole a sprayer like I mentioned above.
Swivel, Pull Down or Stationary
Lastly, there are all kinds of options when it comes to the head of the faucet itself! Do you want one that swivels or one that you can pull out and spray down the sink with? Or maybe you just want one that is where it is and never moves because you decided to go with a separate sprayer in the countertop.
The decisions are endless and I truly feel your pain, especially if you’re new to choosing kitchen faucets!
Where to buy kitchen faucets
This might surprise you but I always start my search on Amazon! I often find products on there cheaper than the exact same product at the big box store near me and most products ship free. I bought all the fixtures for the kitchen and bathroom for Main Street House and from my experience, returns and exchanges are super simple also.
But if you don’t like Amazon, have you heard of the build.com network? They have tons of sites like faucetdirect.com, lightingdirect.com and more and have very reasonable prices so you could check them out as well.
Of course, there’s always the option of going to your local big box store as well! I know some people like to feel and play with the faucets before they purchase. But I highly suggest checking online before you purchase at the store because you can often find the exact same one for cheaper!
My favorite kitchen faucets
Below I list out some of my favorite kitchen faucets I’ve come across for your eyeball’s pleasure. I put an example of almost every type of faucet you could possibly have. From pull downs, to sprayers, from gold to black,
You can also check out this post I wrote all about my search for my own pre-rinse kitchen faucet!
Also, something I’d like to make a special note of: I know it’s hard to pass on some of those incredibly cheap faucets they sell online but you have to! Believe me, cheap kitchen faucets can wind up costing you more in the long run with additional installation costs, break down costs and early replacement costs. I promise it’s worth it to spend just a bit more now than a lot more later.
The first kitchen faucet pictured below is the one I wound up buying for our main street house fixer upper!
That’s all I have for this post! I hope I helped you make a decision on buying a kitchen faucet (and hopefully didn’t confuse things even more for you!) I’m off to pick out a new door for our rental unit!
