A client of ours recently wanted to mix in open shelving with their regular kitchen cabinetry. While we never wound up doing this particular project, I had put together a list of open shelving ideas and where we could purchase some open shelving for her kitchen.
As with most millennial’s we’re a little obsessed with buying from and supporting small business, especially small local businesses when possible.
So I thought what better place to turn than Etsy!?! I’ve always done all my shopping on sites like Amazon and Build.com but recently started finding more unique and handmade products on Etsy. (Fyi, I’m an Etsy affiliate which means I make a small commission if you purchase from one of my links.)
I truly love the idea of incorporating small business into our remodels and was definitely disappointed when this project didn’t pan out the way I’d hoped… for now anyway. But now I have a list of cool shelving to reference later… and so do you!
Open Shelving as Uppers in a Kitchen Remodel
These shelves were my number one choice for what we were going for the in the kitchen! The shelves are about 12″ deep, which is the same depth as regular upper cabinetry and the brackets are industrial pipe parts! How cool is that!??! So basically you can put pretty dishware on it just the same you would in upper cabinetry. If you aren’t into the industrial pipe shelving made from actual plumbing pipe parts, check out this next open shelving option which is actually pretty similar but the brackets are a little more laid back.
This next open shelving option is only 5″ wide so it wouldn’t be so great to use as upper shelving for plates and bowls. But, it might make a cute coffee cup holder! I call it the diamond open shelving option. Next up I found some more industrial pipe shelving made from actual plumbing pipe parts! I love that this open shelving unit is all one piece with three shelves. You can order them in different depths, so ordering the 12″ size would be ideal for storing dishware!!
I’m really in love with these next open shelves. Even though brackets can add style and an extra design element, I love the clean look of floating shelves. These ones can be ordered up to 10″ so they’d still work well for upper shelving in a kitchen. After I found the ones above that were 10″ wide, I found these 12″ wide floating shelves! I seriously love the chunkiness of these shelves and being the same depth as regular cabinetry is an added bonus!
And while I was searching for some custom open shelving I cam across some other really cool types of shelving and storage solutions. One of them was this bike holder with shelf!
I also came across this really awesome driftwood shelf!! Each piece is unique because the driftwood is pulled from the Ohio river and handmade! I would love to do all upper kitchen shelving in this!!
I’ll try and add to this post when I come across more cool shelving. But in the meantime, do you have any cool shelving in your house? Comment below! And if you liked this post, be sure to check out some of these other popular articles.
